IMO 42 squish is to tight for a cub,I like to be around .0050,if the motor was set up for asphault 165psi could have been the goal for the build.High compression isnt everything in racing.No head gasket is sketchy tho.I also have a drag ported 421 cub from fast racing the intakes and transfers are untouched and still have all casting marks the port heights have . I also performed a compression test, and got 112psi on the left cylinder and 105 on the right - which is apparently low (I'm not much above sea level). I haven't had any issues with my plugs popping out - I'm using tapered rubber plugs from Home Depot that are made for the bottoms of furniture legs or round posts.
On my bike I ran a compression test before the cam mod and got 140 psi and then after I did the cam mod and the decompressor is retimed with the cam the cranking compression dropped to 90 psi. Hi I just bought a brand new 2001 Yamaha banshee took it out on the trails over the weekend and when I got home to wash it off I noticed that the left cylinder was backfiring. The bike ran perfect all weekend until I washed it off I swapped the plugs to the left side and still the same thing I also swapped the coils and still left side . With my POS compression tester I got 110PSI after 30-40 kicks and WOT. This was true of both cylinders, I may get another tester or gauge to check if the readings are accurate.
